At this year’s People’s Celebration, I got to share some of my story about how TakeAction Minnesota has been my political home for the past decade. TakeAction Minnesota is the place where I became politicized, grew my leadership, and made more possible for myself, my family and our community.

I became involved with TakeAction in 2012 as a volunteer. There were moments when the work was challenging. I remember how frustrating it was to testify for Earned Sick and Safe Time year after year, and to have the GOP Senate Majority continue to reject our powerful legislation. Now that we’ve elected a DFL trifecta, I can’t wait to pass paid time to care for all Minnesotans and finish the work we started 10 years ago!
There have also been joyful moments. TakeAction Minnesota has supported so many incredibly bold and progressive women of color to win elected office, like Council Member Nelsie Yang, Representative Athena Hollins, School Board Member Halla Henderson, and my dear friend, who helped inspire me to run, who is always with me, former school board member Marny Xiong.
After working on countless electoral and issue campaigns, I knew it was finally time for me to run for office. And TakeAction was there. TakeAction members are the people who helped me fundraise, make calls, and knock doors. They are the people who believed I could win. And I did!

TakeAction Minnesota’s work is not done. TakeAction will continue showing up and believing more is possible for each of us, even when we struggle to believe in ourselves. TakeAction exists because we believe in each other, and we know we can make more possible, together.
