Every year, the stakes rise higher for clean water, sustainable food and a livable climate. But every year Food & Water Watch gets stronger and the impact of our work grows — all thanks to members like YOU!
For the past 17 years, Food & Water Watch has shown the possibilities of people-power. We’re proud of all we’ve accomplished together in 2022 — especially these three victories that are moving the needle on securing a livable future:
We Stopped Manchin’s Dirty Deal - FOUR TIMES
Senator Joe Manchin’s dirty deal threatens both our climate and our communities. If passed, it would fast-track fossil fuel projects across the country, gut a landmark environmental law, and silence community input.
With you, we held rallies and sit-ins across the country and organized a letter from over 400 scientists denouncing the deal. We mobilized opposition against the deal in the House and Senate, and generated more than 10,000 calls to Congressmembers. And in late September, 13 organizational leaders across our movement (including myself) were
arrested
during a sit-in on Capitol Hill.
We Halted Climate-Wrecking Crypto in New York
In recent years, millions of speculators have jumped into the cryptocurrency market. But lurking behind new fortunes was a climate-wrecking technology we knew we had to stop: cryptomining fueled by fracked gas.
We Banned Fracking in the Parks of a Big Pennsylvania County
The parks of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, are treasured sites of family fun and memories. So when we saw how fracking devastated one county park, our organizers started working to secure a ban on future fracking in all Allegheny County parks.
We spent a year organizing — collecting petition signatures, canvassing, making calls and arranging meetings between residents and their county council members. The county executive vetoed the bill once it reached his desk, but our allies on the council rushed a special session and overrode the veto. Now the landmark parks ban protects over 12,000 acres of beloved green spaces.
In the new year, we’ll be working across the country at every level of government to carry out our vision of a livable future for everyone. But we can’t do it without you, John!
Because of your generosity today, we’ll have the resources to take on more huge fights in 2023 — and win them.
Food & Water Watch and its affiliated organization, Food & Water Action, are advocacy groups with a common mission to protect our food, water and climate.
