GCHD: Dec. 17-23, 238 additional cases, 158 additional recoveries

Today we?re reporting a total of 238 additional positive COVID-19 cases and 158 additional recoveries for?Dec. 17-23. Today?s report includes 232 current cases and six older cases newly reported to the health district.?

Sadly, we report one additional death today:??

  • A male, age range 81-90, passed away Dec. 11. He had pre-existing medical conditions and was not vaccinated.

To date, 769,583?tests have been administered in Galveston County.?

As of Dec. 23, 7,517 Galveston County residents have received their updated bivalent booster vaccine, 238,683 residents have received at least one vaccine but not the updated bivalent booster vaccine and 109,042 residents are not vaccinated.??

As of Dec. 22, there are eight Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) COVID-19 positive cases reported in Galveston County. For more information, please call 713-767-3000 or 211.??

To date, a total of 23,543 probable cases have been reported for Galveston County. As stated previously, probable cases are reported separate from confirmed cases. A probable case means a person tested positive for antigens or antibodies and also met the probable case definition from the Texas Department of State Health Services. Probable cases are not included in the county's confirmed case count because an antibody test and antigen test are not lab confirmed PCR tests.??
