MapLight is proud of our accomplishments in 2022:
* We developed and passed the Oakland Fair Elections Act, making Oakland the second city in the nation to have public funding of elections through democracy dollars. MapLight co-founded and co-led the coalition that earned this victory, with a resounding 74% of voters approving the clean elections measure. This act will allow every citizen in Oakland, regardless of their income level, the means to support candidates of their choice, and ensures that candidates can run for office without being beholden to big campaign donors.
* We served an astounding 2.2 million people who visited the Voter’s Edge voting guide to make informed decisions about the California primary and general elections , in collaboration with the League of Women Voters California Education Fund.

We launched SearchLight Denver, the best tool in the nation for providing transparency into money in politics. Denver Clerk and Recorder Paul D. López called SearchLight Denver “one of the most advanced systems for a municipality in the country, bringing everything into one place, where it’s transparent, searchable, and current.”

2023 promises to be even more exciting. MapLight will be expanding campaign finance and lobbying transparency in the city of Minneapolis and the state of Maine, working to expand “democracy dollars” clean elections into more cities, and continuing to expose money’s influence on our democracy.
