Blueprint to ‘22 was created in the spring of 2021 as the MassDems’ relational organizing and community building initiative to help Democrats mobilize their friends, family, and neighbors through public service ahead of the 2022 statewide elections.

Dear Democrat,

The countdown to the holidays and New Year has begun! I’m passing along my best wishes to you, your families, and your networks for a happy and healthy new year in 2023. 

This year was an amazing year for Democrats as we secured new seats during the election season nationwide and locally, we saw many women break glass ceilings in politics, and we celebrated as the Biden administration fulfilled many promises to us. 

Below we’ve conveniently wrapped up special highlights (some are our personal favorites) from this year for you to share with your friends. We’re also providing creative assets for you to share your favorite moment from 2022 with your social media networks. 

I’m excited to see what the future holds for us in 2023!

At the national level, there has been a lot to celebrate this year. Glass ceilings were shattered when Judge Katanji Brown Jackson was appointed by President Biden and confirmed as the first Black woman on the Supreme Court. And now, right in time for the holidays, we are seeing gas prices drop and inflation rates continuing to come down. This proves that President Biden’s economic plan is working for folks across Massachusetts, and shoppers will start to see the benefits this season!  

President Biden fulfilled many promises to us by signing many pieces of historic legislation into law throughout the year:

• CHIPS and Science Act → $52 Billion invested in the production of computer chips, lowering the cost of everyday goods, and restoring pride in American manufacturing.
• Inflation Reduction Act → Families will see lower prescription drug costs, health care costs, and everyday energy costs because wealthy corporations will now be paying their fair share.
• Respect for Marriage Act → Ensures that marriage equality is protected federally and reaffirms the fundamental truth that Americans have the right to marry who they love!

With approval ratings on the rise, there is a lot of momentum moving into the new year!

Once again, there proved to be a lot of action in Georgia this election year as Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker faced off in a special runoff election in December. Democrats all over the country came together to support Warnock through virtual phonebanking, in-person canvassing, or donating. Here in Massachusetts, several of you joined us for phone banking events through our Organizing Hub and others joined the front lines by flying to Georgia to be our eyes and ears on the ground. 

With all of the support, Senator Warnock secured a victory and secured a majority for Democrats in the Senate! Thanks to Democrats, President Biden is the first president since FDR to not lose a single Senate seat in a midterm election.

• Maura Healey will be heading to the corner office as the state’s first elected woman and first openly gay governor! Healey and Kim Driscoll will be the nation’s first female governor and lieutenant governor team.
• Andrea Campbell made history as the first Black woman to win a statewide election in Massachusetts.
• With Diana DiZoglio’s successful election as State Auditor and Deb Goldberg’s successful re-election as Secretary of State, five out of the six constitutional offices in Massachusetts will be held by women.

This election year, we flipped 5 legislative districts from Red to Blue and flipped 3 county seats from Red to Blue. Most notably, newly-elected Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux who defeated MAGA loving 25-year incumbent Tom Hodgsen.

And if you were thinking this election cycle ended on November 8th, think again! This year, two State Representative races headed their Republican opponents in recounts. Both Margaret Scarsdale of the First Middlesex District and Kristin Kassner of the Second Essex District proved to be victorious at the conclusion of their recounts — Scarsdale won by 17 votes, and Kassner won by 1 vote. If you ever needed a reminder that your vote matters, look no further than these two recounts; they have shown us all that one vote can make a difference and truly change history.
