First, conservatives on the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013.

Then, Texas Republicans pushed through an extreme partisan gerrymander, illegally purged voting rolls, enacted unnecessary voter ID laws, and eliminated mobile voting.

The Voting Rights Advancement Act restores the portion of the Voting Rights Act that requires states and local jurisdictions with a history of discrimination to get pre-approval from the federal government to pass new voting laws or make changes to the election process. We desperately need this legislation in Texas to stop Republican attacks on our constitutional right to vote.

Texas Republicans will stop at nothing to suppress minority and Democratic turnout. In Pasadena, voter intimidation against minorities was so egregious that one anonymous U.S. Department of Justice monitor said that the DOJ had not seen anything like it since the 1960s.
