** Dear Neighbors,
------------------------------------------------------------
Please spread the word that assistance is available now for New Yorkers in need of affordable health insurance.

The open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act ends on January 31st. New Yorkers can speak with a coverage specialist and obtain free enrollment assistance through January 31st by visiting nyc.gov/GetCoveredNYC ([link removed]) , texting "CoveredNYC" to 877877, or calling 311.

Make A Difference -- Become a Community Board Member
Applications are being accepted until January 21st to join your local community board. The Upper West Side is represented by Board 7 ([link removed]) and Board 4 ([link removed]) .

I served on Board 7 for many years and it was a life-changing experience. I learned how government actually functions, and worked with a cross-section of our community to improve quality of life for all Upper West Siders.

Every community board in New York City is made up of 50 volunteer members serving staggered two-year terms. The boards are the most grass-roots form of local government -- they are the independent and representative voices of their communities. Community boards engage with both on-the-ground, existing conditions, and future plans for every neighborhood.

Each community board has a budget, a district manager and staff, and three core responsibilities:
* Monitor the delivery of City services, such as sanitation and street maintenance;
* Plan and review land use applications, including zoning changes; and
* Make recommendations for each year’s City budget.

I hope you'll consider applying. Learn more and apply here ([link removed]) .

Warmly,
