John,

The COVID-19 pandemic shed light on many growing challenges within our nation’s economic and social infrastructure, and today I want to talk about one that is literally a kitchen-table issue — because it involves our food: Factory farming.

For decades, our country’s food system has been dominated by massive warehouses that focus more on profits than the workers, the animals, our environment, or the families who just want to feed their kids safe and healthy meals.

This has resulted in inhumane treatment of livestock, small family farmers being squeezed out of the industry, and workers being treated without respect for their safety or well-being.

John, if you agree that we must do something to right these wrongs, sign on as a citizen cosponsor of my Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act to take on the monopolistic factory farms and unchecked corporate greed that affects every single one of us.

Here’s what our legislation will do:

- Prioritize implementing humane animal treatment methods

- Ensure that the mega-corporations running these factory farms pay their fair share in order to take care of their facilities instead of making taxpayers foot the bill

- Require factory farms to submit disaster preparedness plans to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to protect our food supply from future shutdowns

- Support meatpacking workers by improving their workplace conditions and ensuring they receive proper compensation

As you can see, lots of work has to be done in order to improve our nation’s current food system. But I believe that we will all be better off when we embrace a more empathetic and appreciative approach to caring for our food and the workers who dedicate their careers to producing it.

Help me stop inhumane practices within factory farms for good by signing on to support my legislation, the Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act, today:
