John,
Under Democratic control, the 117th Congress was hallmarked by many historic pieces of legislation. As our current Congress comes to an end, take a look at what we accomplished:
• The American Rescue Plan Act created a national vaccination plan, made investments to reopen schools safely, and provided assistance for working families, affordable housing, and small businesses.
• The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act invested in roads, bridges, and airports and addressed environmental needs like climate change and clean drinking water. This bill also supports programs to bring high-speed, affordable internet to rural communities.
• Passed in response to the gun violence plaguing our communities, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act creates penalties for gun trafficking, helps keep guns away from dangerous individuals, and improves mental health services.
• The Honoring Our PACT Act expands VA healthcare to millions of combat veterans exposed to deadly toxins, invests in federal research on toxic exposure, and will improve the VA resources and infrastructure.
• To address rising costs, the Inflation Reduction Act was passed to reduce prescription drug prices (including a $35 cap on insulin for Medicare recipients), create a 15% corporate tax minimum, and invest $369 billion in climate and energy programs.
• And just last week, we passed the Respect for Marriage Act to protect LGBTQ+ and interracial marriages at the federal level.
These pieces of legislation were no small feat, and I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish in this Congress.
In January, Republicans will take control of the House. Under their majority, we’ll see them stall progress, amplify their dangerous agenda, and create partisan gridlock.
But rest assured, I will continue fighting tirelessly to deliver for you and our country.
