The recent legislative session left Texas Democrats basking in glory, according to an op-ed by the Lone Star Voice [[link removed]], a publication based in West Texas. “One of the biggest successes that Gov. Abbott racked up was the passage of SB 11 with SB 10 amended in. This legislation, which came into existence through the Democrat Party Platform, was an emergency item that the governor called for in his State of the State address which will grow mental health services in the state.”

Taxpayers in the City of Allen will once again see higher property tax bills, on average, even though the city is not raising the tax rate. Erin Anderson has the details [[link removed]].

President Donald Trump announced he will nominate Republican U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe (TX-4) for Director of National Intelligence. If confirmed, Destin Sensky reports [[link removed]], Ratcliffe would succeed Dan Coats as the head of all United States intelligence agencies.

Last week the House passed a two-year, $2 trillion budget deal that undoes the last vestiges of the Budget Control Act, the hardest won fiscally conservative gains in a decade. In a new commentary [[link removed]], Rachel Bovard the Conservative Partnership Institute writes “fiscal conservatism has been on the decline in the last five years, but this budget deal officially represents its funeral.”

After four days, House Speaker Dennis Bonnen has finally responded to the substance of the information I shared about a meeting in his Capitol office [[link removed]]. His first response to our public report was a deceitful and rambling email [[link removed]] to Republican lawmakers Friday evening. Many noted his non-comment on the central issue of my article, regarding the offer he made to me and Empower Texans.

Simply [[link removed]]: If we would withhold criticism of the legislative session, withhold political attacks on some members, and—most notably—use our resources against a list of Republicans he had GOP Caucus Chairman Dustin Burrows [[link removed]] provide, Bonnen would grant media credentials to Texas Scorecard’s reporters. (The subject of improperly denied media credentials is a matter in federal court right now.)

In a press statement today [[link removed]], Bonnen asserted: “At no point in our conversation was Sullivan provided with a list of target Members.”

Because Bonnen now claims Chairman Burrows was in the meeting as a “witness,” these three questions should be put to him [[link removed]]:Does he stand by Bonnen’s misrepresentation of the meeting and its substance?Did Speaker Bonnen not in the meeting say “he’ll show you the list…”?Then did Bonnen not leave the room and did Burrows not read a list of Republican targets the two of them hoped Empower Texans’ political action committee would “fund” against? Number of the Day

$22.5 Trillion

National debt of the United States.
