John — On this day ten years ago, I learned that children like me could be massacred in their classrooms when 26 first graders and school staff were killed in a deadly school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. In a just country, that horrific massacre would have been a wake-up call for Congress to pass stronger gun safety laws like banning assault weapons. But our elected officials failed to take action, and the mass shooting epidemic in this country didn't stop there. Only six years later, my classmates and I experienced a similar tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. As survivors and victims, it’s a community that no one wants to be part of, but it has become a unifying safe haven for us to fight for change. Ever since, we’ve grown into a mass movement of people from all walks of life — including parents, children, teachers, community groups, and everyday Americans — that I am proud to be part of. I invite you to join the fight to end the gun violence epidemic this holiday season by supporting our year-round work to protect lives and build a safer future.
