As the first openly gay Senator, this issue is personal to me as it is to millions of Americans. I’m proud to have voted with John in this fight for LGBTQ equality, but our fight for progress isn’t finished yet, and I’m asking you to join us.

So much progress has been made in recent years toward achieving LGBTQ equality — but still, we see attempts across the country to take away rights for those in the LGBTQ community. Republican-led state legislatures across the country continue to pass harmful legislation, especially targeting transgender people and LGBTQ youth.

When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Justice Clarence Thomas called for Obergefell v. Hodges — the case that established nationwide marriage equality — to be “reconsidered.”

After that, I knew that the progress toward marriage equality that we have worked so hard for was on the line, which is why the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act is so important.

This is a big step in the right direction, but our work continues. That’s why I’m asking:
