News from Representative Allred

Dear Friend,

Last week was a big week in Washington.

After 10 months of uncertainty, and facing the cruelty of Russia’s sham justice system – WNBA basketball player and Texas native Brittney Griner has come home. This is the result of months of incredibly hard and tedious work by President Biden, Secretary Blinken and the experts at the State Department. I also worked in Congress with my colleagues to pass a bipartisan resolution calling for her release. Every day an American is detained abroad is a lifetime, and we remain committed to getting Paul Whelan and every American detained abroad back home.

Additionally, the House passed the Respect for Marriage Act in an effort to protect same-sex and interracial marriages, and now President Biden will sign marriage equality into law this week. No matter who you are or where you live, every American should have the ability to marry who they love, no matter what an extremist Supreme Court may rule. I was proud to vote for this critical legislation to provide LGBTQ Texans the stability and peace of mind that federal marriage protections bring. Watch my speech on the House floor here.

In a strong symbol of the stark differences in freedoms between the U.S. and Russia, Congress has acted to protect the rights of millions of Americans, enshrining marriage equality into federal law and protecting marriages just like Brittney Griner’s. I will always stand up to protect the freedoms of all North Texans. It’s an honor to deliver for North Texas, where I was born and raised.

Sincerely,
