Send a letter to the Council during committee assignment season

Dear Friend

The DC Council needs a new Housing Committee chair. Over the last 6 years, Councilmember Bonds has failed to meet the demands of leading this important committee. Under her watch, the DC Housing Authority is in shambles - including a scathing HUD report, corruption, and abysmal conditions for public housing tenants.

DC is in a long term housing crisis which requires meaningful engagement from the DC Council. DC has lost over 50,000 Black residents in 20 years, even though the city's population has grown by over 130,000. Our lack of affordable housing and public housing is driving out Black residents, permanently altering Chocolate City.

DC Council’s Committee on Housing and Executive Administration has been responsible for oversight of DCHA as well as many other aspects of housing in DC. Public housing, affordable housing, rent control, and single family rehabilitation all need action now.

We cannot afford another two years of poor leadership from the DC Council. We need new leadership for the Housing Committee. Send a letter to the Council TODAY:

Right now is a key time to speak up for a new Housing Committee chair. Between now and the end of December, the Council will make committee assignments for the next term beginning in January.

Residents and advocates have testified before the DC Council for years about mismanagement at DC Housing Authority (DCHA). Residents have shared hundreds of stories about horrifying living conditions, closed waitlists, mismanagement, scandal, and high staff turnover. They were not taken seriously, and the chair did not take meaningful action.

Send a letter to the Council RIGHT NOW asking for a new chair of the Housing Committee before December ends.
