John -- As we start the holiday season, it is more important than ever to shop locally and support our small businesses. This will be our third holiday season since the start of the global pandemic, and it’s essential to continue to support our community in all the ways we can. I am incredibly grateful to represent the merchants of District 2, and I hope you will join me in visiting some of my favorite shops. With support from the Office of Small Business, the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, and Shop Dine SF, we created our own District 2 Holiday Shopping Guide. In addition to these picks, I hope you will visit some of our treasured Legacy Businesses, including Books Inc., Sue Fisher King Co., Shaw Shoes, Valentino Market, and California Wine Merchant to name a few. I also hope that you will purchase gift cards from restaurants in our District. Small businesses make up more than 93% of our total businesses, employ hundreds of thousands of San Franciscans, and are an essential engine for our local economy. I will continue to do everything I can at City Hall to support our local merchants. This past fall, I introduced legislation to waive street sale permit fees and promote sidewalk sales during the holiday season. By activating commercial corridors, small businesses will be able to engage our commercial corridors in a fun and visible way. These resources offer just a sampling of all that District 2 has to offer. Please let me know if you have a favorite store that I should check out!
