Each year, TIME gives the honorary title to spotlight the culture-shifting work of leaders, activists, and movements across the country.

This year, TIME magazine nominated gun safety advocates (aka YOU!) as a top finalist for the annual ‘Person of the Year’ issue.

In 2022, everyday Americans, organizers, and survivors stepped up when politicians fell silent following tragedy after tragedy. As a result, our movement sparked a national reckoning on gun violence and secured historic gun safety laws for the first time in over 30 years.

As highlighted in the roundup, everyday Americans demonstrated in over 450 March For Our Lives rallies nationwide this year, with thousands of supporters taking gun violence prevention to the streets.

The impact and urgency of our work cannot be understated. March For Our Lives and other youth-driven movements, past and present, have proven that laws change when we push lawmakers to take action for the betterment of all people in our country.

While this is an honor, it’s not why we’re in this fight — we'd trade this praise for a world free of gun violence. But it affirms that our collective voices have echoed worldwide and the needle is moving toward progress.
