Friend, the last few days have made clear: The President is grossly unfit to serve this country, and careening us from crisis to crisis is not a governing or national security strategy.

I’m praying for the many U.S. service members, diplomatic personnel, partners, and Iraqi people whose lives the Trump administration has now put in grave danger.

Congress must reassert its authority, and we must not let this administration recklessly drag our country into an immoral war.

Both Iran and the United States must immediately halt all hostilities, and the Trump administration must engage to find the path of immediate de-escalation. Even though Trump claims "all is well" now, we're long past the point where he can be taken at his word -- his contradictory statements about NATO, his demands for more countries to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, his lack of any basic understanding of geography, foreign policy, and diplomacy, and the fact that he is currently facing a trial in the Senate after having been impeached for corruption raise serious questions about his motives and ability to execute a coherent strategy going forward.

The Trump administration and his Republican enablers in Congress, like Roger Williams, have deliberately put us on a path to this dangerous moment. It is the many U.S. service members like those stationed at Ft. Hood and their families who I care very deeply about that I am thinking of today.

It is past time for a new course. It is time for leaders with a steady hand and an understanding of foreign policy and our interests to sit down and engage in diplomacy and working toward peace, and end the wars this country has been engaged in in the Greater Middle East for nearly two decades.

War in Iran would be a moral and strategic catastrophe. The American people do not want it. Those who serve this country in uniform do not deserve it.

We can not afford to make the mistakes we made when our media and the American people were duped into going to war for nonexistent threats in Iraq in 2003. It is up to every patriotic American to stand up and push back against those that are trying to tell us otherwise -- including Roger Williams, who is heavily funded by defense industry PACs that stand to profit from the death and suffering that war would cause.
