I’ll be serving as secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus

Dear John,

It’s hard to believe it was less than a month ago that I was re-elected to my third term in Congress! We’re moving full steam ahead to get ready for the upcoming session, and I’m so honored to announce that I’ve been elected as the next secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC).

If you don’t know the history, the CBC was established in 1971 following the Civil Rights Movement. As more Black Congressmembers were being elected, they founded the CBC in order to better advocate for the rights and well-being of African Americans.

John, I’m proud to be a part of the leadership and history of this organization.

As the daughter of the Illinois Branch President of the NAACP, I was born in the heart of the Civil Rights movement. As I’ve said, in our household it was expected that from the moment we could walk, we’d be marching too.

Over the past 50 years, the CBC has done critical work towards building a better, more just future for our communities and our country. We center issues that affect the day-to-day lives of Black Americans, and I’m looking forward to helping lead this charge on behalf of my constituents in Georgia’s 7th district.

If you’d like to stay engaged with the work I’m doing with the CBC, add your name to our Team Lucy list.
