Learn more about what my office has been up to this week Dear john, I hope you enjoyed last week's Thanksgiving holiday with family and loved ones. Congress returned to Washington this week, and I want to share a few updates on our work to serve you and our community: Announcing the winners of the 2022 Congressional App Challenge This week, I was honored to welcome the winners of my 2022 Congressional App Challenge to my Sandy Springs district office. These young people have identified areas of need in our nation and used their talents to develop solutions to solve some of our biggest problems. As I have said in years past, the future of our country is very bright with these students at the helm! Congratulations to the following winners of the 2022 App Challenge: Winning third place in the competition was an app called Atlas-The College Guide. This app was created by Fulton Science Academy student Pranavkrishna Suresh. In second place was an app called Alzheimer Disease Assessment System (ADAS). This app was created by Chattahoochee High School students Sophie Lin and Keefer Lin. The winning app was entitled DNAImpute. This app was created by Chamblee High School students Naveed Kabir and Anthony de Leon Velasquez. Congratulations once again to these amazing students! Serving the Congressional Black Caucus This week, I was honored to be elected as the Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus for the 118th Congress. I was born in the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, and I was always taught to forge a path towards making life better for American families. Together, we will continue to build a brighter, more just future for our communities, our caucus, and our country. Standing Up for Marriage Equality The Senate took a major step this week towards codifying marriage equality as the law of the land. A bipartisan majority of senators approved the Respect for Marriage Act, which will protect same-sex marriage. Next week, the House expects to take up this legislation so we can send it to President Biden's desk and get marriage equality signed into law. Every American deserves the freedom to marry the person they love, and I will be proud to support the Respect for Marriage Act on behalf of all those who fear attacks on their right to marry, because love is love.
