Washington, D.C. – This week, I voted to block the looming rail strike. A rail strike wouldn't just disrupt Christmas shopping, it would be a national security crisis. As a former mayor, I understand the impact a rail strike can have on cities' natural gas and water supplies. A major disruption to rail lines would leave families across the country without easy access to clean energy and water. Furthermore, failure to solve this labor dispute would cost our already battered economy $2 billion per day. You can hear more about my decision by listening to my recent interview on this topic here.

I cosponsored the Jackie Walorski Maternal and Child Home Visiting Reauthorization Act (H.R. 8876), a bipartisan bill that passed the House today, which supports expectant mothers and parents of young children to improve maternal and child health outcomes. Rep. Walorski was the perfect example of someone who spent her career helping others and used that same drive and commitment to serve her district. It was an honor to vote to pass this pragmatic piece of legislation in her name. You can read more on H.R. 8876 here.

On Monday, I had a productive discussion with the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce on our current economic troubles and my work in Congress to address them!
