Dear John,

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Muslim Civic Table, a convening program alongside Muslim grassroots and civic organizations!

Following the historic participation of the Muslim community in the 2020 presidential and 2022 midterm elections, Emgage is excited to announce a strategic investment to sustain this growth by establishing state Muslim Civic Tables in coordination and collaboration within and with the Muslim civic space. From our children’s textbooks and curriculums, to zoning laws, to U.S. foreign policy, Muslim Americans have a vested interest and responsibility to shape what America stands for at home and abroad.

Since our founding, Emgage has sought to foster a culture of civic engagement at the grassroots level via our state chapters, and translating this engagement into impact on policies and greater representation at the local, state, and federal levels. This 15 year journey has taught us a few lessons, especially the importance of collaborative work. This is where The Muslim Civic Tables comes in.

What is the Muslim Civic Table seeking to accomplish?

The Muslim Civic Table will strengthen and connect leading Muslim nonprofit organizations, community advocates, and leaders, and will serve as a hub that brings together the larger Muslim community and its allies. The state tables will work together to advance equality, justice, and opportunity, and strive to engage, educate, and activate our communities in the democratic process.

At the Muslim Civic Table, our coalitions believe it will take a collective effort of various tactics to attain the democracy our communities deserve. Voting is one tool in the larger toolbox of civic engagement. Other tactics include a combination of education and outreach with government officials, providing aid and support to Muslim civic organizations, voter engagement, legislative advocacy, issue campaigns, and in-language access to engage with government and public agencies in our communities.

The Muslim Civic Table will be rolled-out officially in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New York starting December 1, 2022. Washington, D.C.-DMV region, Florida, and Texas will be launched soon thereafter.
