We can't do this work without you.

Dear John,

What matters to YOU?

At the North Carolina League of Conservation Voters (NCLCV), our goal is to turn what matters to you into priorities for our North Carolina leaders.

So, we’ve been listening, and here are a few samples of what matters to our supporters - folks, like you:

Elizabeth R.: Clean water matters to me! My family lives in an area where our drinking water was contaminated with GENX. My husband developed a rare cancer often linked to that pollutant. Our whole family was terrified.

My husband received the best care North Carolina could provide. He survived, but I still wake up in the middle of the night and think, “What if we couldn’t have afforded that care? What is happening to all the people who can’t afford it?

Robert L.:  Clean air and environmental justice matter to me. I grew up downwind from a plant that filled the air with toxic smoke. By the time I was in my early 20s, I had asthma so badly, I could hardly walk to the door. My mother died of lung cancer. I wasn’t alone. Respiratory illnesses were everywhere in my neighborhood. As I got older, I couldn’t help but notice that this sort of thing happens so much more often in communities of color. Why? Legislation – or the lack thereof.

Nancy Y.: I worry about the future. I saw a photo of a baby polar bear leaning against its mama. They are all alone on a piece of floating ice in the middle of the sea. Their future is bleak. There is little hope. I want to help.

I want to help the balance of nature. I think of my kids. I think of my grandkids. If we don’t act now, will they have hope?

What matters to you? Let us know. We’re listening. With your support, we can elect more leaders who share your values. Then we can work with them to pass wise legislation that is fair to everyone. And we will keep you informed. Together, we can hold leaders accountable.

Nancy is right. The time to act is NOW!  Please support our work with an end of year donation, so we can continue to turn what matters to you into priorities for North Carolina leaders.

Warmly,

Lari Powell Hatley
Director of Development and Donor Relations
