Dear John,
A little over a week ago, the holiday of Hanukkah was desecrated when an assailant attacked and critically injured several members of New York’s Hasidic community.
This attack followed several recent assaults on Orthodox men, women, and children on the streets of New York and a landmark AJC survey [link removed] showing that a third of American Jews have hidden their Jewish identity out of concern over their safety or comfort.
Over the last two days, thanks to you, we sent a powerful message to those targeting Jews in New York and anywhere else: We are resilient, we are united, and we will fight resolutely against the forces of antisemitism.
On Sunday, we marched with more than 25,000 Jews and allies in New York. Together, in the words of Abraham Joshua Heschel, we “prayed with our feet” against hate.
As AJC CEO David Harris told us: "We need to link arms with all people of goodwill, here in New York, here in America, and around the world, just as we’re doing today, because an assault on any group is an assault on every group. It is an assault on the values that bind us together as Americans.” Click here to watch his speech and read his remarks in full.

And yesterday, with your help, AJC’s #JewishandProud Day [link removed] reached people in 60 countries and showed the world that nothing will prevent us from openly celebrating our Jewish identity.
Thousands of people across the globe marked AJC’s #JewishandProud Day. From Cleveland to Rio de Janeiro, from New York to Jerusalem, the hashtag went viral on social media, with Jews and our allies of all backgrounds expressing their Jewish pride or showing support for the Jewish community.
And we are just getting started.
With antisemitism on the rise across the globe, your generous support enables AJC to create initiatives like #JewishandProud, to counter this frightening epidemic.
We will not allow this to be the new normal. We will not accept a world in which Jews must hide in plain sight.
I urge you to become familiar with AJC’s Translate Hate education initiative [link removed] and use it to expose antisemitism whenever and wherever you see it.
It is up to all of us to act against rising antisemitism. With your help, we will continue to advocate for a safer and secure world for all.
Thank you for joining AJC’s #JewishandProud initiative, and for supporting our fight against antisemitism and all forms of hatred.
With gratitude,
Daniel Elbaum
AJC Chief Advocacy Officer
