Thank you for supporting the fight for free expression. National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) is combatting an onslaught of attacks on books in schools. But for this Giving Tuesday, we’re showing you how your support makes a difference in the lives of youth fighting for the freedom to read!

Edha Gupta ([link removed]) , a 17-year-old high school student activist from York, Pennsylvania, led fellow students in a successful protest over a school board ban on hundreds of anti-racist books and resources. Through demonstration and diligence, student activists successfully reversed the ban, and the titles were returned to school library collections.

Edha is not alone. In 2022 the NCAC worked to empower the next generation of free speech advocates by providing resources and guidance to advocate for freedom of expression as both a fundamental human right and a keystone of democracy. Part of this effort was the launch of our Student Advocates for Speech ([link removed]) initiative. Nine high school student-led clubs representing thousands of kids are learning to advocate for their speech and the speech of their fellow students, including the right to read, school censorship, and amplifying the voices of young people in democratic civic life.
