John —
Over the weekend, we lost five members of the LGBTQ community in a mass shooting in Colorado Springs along with 25 people injured. We are heartbroken and at a loss for words for the hate-motivated violence killing our most vulnerable communities.
We need to confront the consequences of how deadly hate becomes when guns are widely available. To honor the victims and survivors of Club Q, Congress must pass an assault weapons ban immediately.
With the midterm elections behind us, we have a rare opportunity in front of us to raise the heat on our Senators and get them to pass historic gun safety laws in the remaining weeks of this session of Congress. That’s why March For Our Lives advocates traveled to Washington, D.C. last week to demand that the Senate vote on the Assault Weapons Ban now, which passed in the House this summer.
Take a look at some 🔑 key highlights from our week of action:
We camped⛺out from 7 am and stayed until sunset 🌇. Through 🌧️rain, ❄️cold, and everything in between, this is what survivors and activists have to do to push Congress to do their job.

We met with long-time gun violence prevention champions such as Senator Chris Murphy to urge them to persuade their colleagues in the Senate to call for a vote on the Assault Weapons Ban and declare their support. |

🟦 After hours of waiting to speak to Sen. Schumer to demand the Senate vote on the Assault Weapons Ban, we were forced to leave. 🟦 |

The next day, Schumer spoke to us and confirmed his support for stronger gun safety legislation but fell short of committing to putting an Assault Weapons Ban up for a vote. |
Young people voted in historic numbers and drove Democratic victories across the country. We made it clear that bold policies are the path to victory in 2024. Now, it’s time for Senator Schumer to deliver on his promise to keep our communities safe and protect our lives.
The clock is running out this session to ban assault weapons. We must pass an Assault Weapons Ban in the Senate before it’s too late. If you agree, add your name to our petition today >>
Thanks for bringing your voices to the fight to end gun violence.
✊In solidarity,
