She always told me: If you want to be right, be a pessimist; if you want to do right, be an optimist. So I’ve always strived to stick to optimism and focus on the good we can do, but I’ll tell you what -- the great results of this year’s midterm elections surpassed even my expectations!

Here in Virginia, we once again sent a majority of Democrats in our delegation to the House of Representatives -- a tribute to how far we’ve come from the days when we only held 3 of Virginia’s 11 House Seats.

I’m so glad that Abigail Spanberger and Jennifer Wexton defied the odds and held on to their seats in extremely close races -- all of us will be better off with their voices in Congress.

And of course, I was thrilled to see my friends Mark Kelly, Catherine Cortez Masto, Maggie Hassan, and so many more stave off the supposed “red wave” to help Democrats keep the majority.

Thank you for everything you did to help make these midterm elections an unqualified success. Whether you voted, volunteered, chipped in when you could, or even ran for office yourself, your efforts and your voice are so important, and I’m grateful for you.

But we're not done yet. We still need to support Rev. Raphael Warnock in his runoff race against Herschel Walker on December 6th.
