Dear Georgian,

Happy Thanksgiving week! I am thankful for the opportunity to represent you in Congress. I hope you all have safe travels and spend quality time with your families for the holiday!

This past week, Republicans took the House Majority for the 118th Congress beginning in January. I am confident that under our leadership, we will fulfill our Commitment to America and work to restore our energy independence and economic stability to this country.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Sincerely,

Congressman Austin Scott

Standing Up for Seniors

Cataracts can be dangerous, and some healthcare companies have imposed new policies that require prior authorization for cataract surgeries. These excessive policies are preventing or delaying many Georgians from receiving much-needed surgery.

My colleagues and I sent a letter to the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) asking them to examine these policies, and other Medicare Advantage plans to ensure that they are not unnecessarily delaying or denying beneficiaries’ access to medically necessary cataract surgery.

Internship Program Update

My office is still accepting applications for full-time and part-time Spring 2023 interns in our Washington D.C. Office. This semester, we had ABAC student Bryce Roland as our intern in Washington. Bryce is a senior at ABAC from Perry, Georgia and was here as part of the ABAC Fellowship Program. We appreciate his hard work for Georgia's Eighth Congressional District!

The deadline for all students to apply for the Spring 2023 internship is November 28th. Spring interns will have the opportunity to learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a Congressional office.

Interested applicants can learn more and here.

Fox News | Republicans express confidence in House leadership going into next Congress: 'I like our leadership'

"Several House Republicans expressed confidence in their leadership going into the next Congress with control of the House hanging in the balance.

Fox News Digital asked congressional Republicans their confidence level with leadership on a scale of 1 to 10.

The House leadership scored high marks among several GOP members asked, with their scores ranging between 9 and 10.

Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., gave the same rating as his Tennessee colleague.

'I think it's a ten,' he declared. We're going to elect Kevin McCarthy as speaker of the House, we're going to elect Steve Scalise, and we will have a competitive race for the whip.'"

Fox News | Congressional Republicans call on Mayorkas to resign after CBP head quits: Chris Magnus is 'scapegoat'

Republican lawmakers said Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should be next on the chopping block after Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Chris Magnus' resignation over the weekend.

Magnus resigned from his post after being given an ultimatum to quit or get the pink slip. He had previously refused to step down.

'Nothing will be fixed at the border until Biden reverses his open border policies,' Georgia Rep. Austin Scott, a Republican, told Fox News Digital. 'Magnus was just another example of the administration’s incompetent handling of our southern border.'"
