Weekly Script November 20th, 2022 WEEKLY SC℞IPT Friends, Thank you for taking time to read my weekly update. Below you'll learn more about what I'm doing in Washington to support Iowans in the second district. Visit My Website COP 27 Earlier this month I joined some of my Republican colleagues in attending COP27, to discuss the future of renewable energy with leaders from around the globe. During this conference, I participated in panels and roundtables to discuss the importance of investing in American innovation and manufacturing within the renewable energy sector. The United States must take advantage of its own resources to prevent our adversaries, like China, from monopolizing the industry. Floor Speeches This week I spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives to honor the life of Charles Larson. Charles served in the United States Army, retiring as Colonel and a recipient of the Legion of Merit Award. Additionally, Charles worked with Iowa Governor Terry Brandstad as a member of his cabinet and served on Iowa's Board of Parole. I also recognized Todd Hafner for his nineteen year career at William Penn University. Todd had a winning record of 112-93-1, giving him the most wins of any coach in the school's history! Speaking to residents of the Second District allows me to stay informed of what is going on in their communities and what I can do to help. This week I spoke with NAIFA to discuss how Congress can enact policies that allow hardworking Americans to increase their retirement savings because our seniors deserve a successful retirement. I also spoke with Iowa Biodiesel about our state's efforts to follow an "any of the above" approach when it comes to energy production. Pastor Perteit, from Iowa City, also stopped by to talk about ways to combat global poverty. I met with America's Small Business Development Centers to discuss how small businesses in Southeastern Iowa are thriving. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and I will continue doing everything I can to support them. I welcomed Colonel Curry and the Corps of Engineers to talk about their work in southeast Iowa and their work protecting the Mississippi river. I finished my week meeting with BIO BDPAC to discuss how the United States can be better prepared for future pandemics. In The News This week I spoke with Newsmax and Fox News to discuss the Biden administration's failing border policies and what actions Congress needs to take to secure our southern border. Committee Work This week I had the opportunity to question Secretary Mayorkas about the Biden Administration's border policies. Because of the administration's reckless open-border policies, the number of unaccompanied alien children along our southern border has nearly doubled. It is far past time to enforce common sense practices that dissuade parents from risking their children's lives to cross the border. I also had the opportunity to question witnesses at the Education and Labor hearing held to discuss workplace protections for domestic workers. To watch me question Secretary Mayorkas click HERE.
