The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

I hope everyone had a great week. I am honored to keep serving Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District.

Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week!

Challenging Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker

Image

This week, I challenged House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

I received 31 votes during the initial GOP Conference meeting, meaning Leader McCarthy did not obtain the 218 votes required to become the next House speaker.

My bid to run for Speaker is about changing the paradigm and the status quo. Minority Leader McCarthy and his speakership should not be a foregone conclusion.

The American people want us to turn a page. They do not want excuses or performance art, they want action and results. The promised red wave turned into a loss of the United States Senate, a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives, and upset losses of premiere political candidates.

There are reforms that must be made in the House in order to facilitate representation of our constituents. Items such as allowing members to move to amend bills, only allowing bills to cover a single subject, and requiring bills to go through committees before bringing them to the floor. Members must also be granted more time to read the legislation and debate the merits of it.

The official vote for House Speaker will occur on January 3, 2023. I look forward to serving our great nation and steering our country in a better direction.

Forum on House Rules and Process Changes for the 118th Congress

On Monday, I held a forum on rules and process changes for the 118th Congress.

My congressional colleagues and I examined proposals and discussed changes needed for House and GOP Conference rules. These include enacting a “Majority of the Majority” rule, restoring the independence of committees, holding bureaucrats accountable, and much more here

Mark Meadows, Former White House Chief of Staff and Member of Congress, Ed Corrigan, President and CEO of The Conservative Partnership Institute, Paul Teller, Executive Director at Advancing American Freedom, and Rachel Bovard, Senior Director of Policy at The Conservative Partnership Institute, all provided exceptional testimony and recommendations.

I’d like to thank Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Rep. Jack Begman (R-MI), Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ), Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), and Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) for joining my discussion during a very busy week in Congress.

Initiating Investigations on Biden Administration Officials

This week, the House Judiciary Committee continued to gear up its investigations on several Biden Administration officials in preparation for the 118th Congress. These include conducting investigations on Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Christopher Wray, Attorney General Merrick Garland, Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, and White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain.

These individuals must be held accountable and will be a top priority for me and the Judiciary Committee come January.  Check out the following articles below to see what’s at stake:

Holding the Biden Family Accountable in the 118th Congress

Yesterday, I joined Ranking Member James Comer (R-KY) of the Oversight Committee and Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-OH) of the Judiciary Committee to highlight how we intend to investigate the domestic and international business dealings of the Biden family and their associates in the 118th Congress.

We will investigate whether their activities compromised U.S. national security and if President Biden can continue to lead with impartiality.

Unfortunately, the Biden family has a pattern of cozying up to foreign governments to enrich themselves and place Americans last.

Make no mistake, we will not turn a blind eye to them and will hold them accountable.

My America First Contract

Now that the midterm elections are over, House Republicans will need to immediately reverse the Democrats’ disastrous policies to get our country back in good shape come January.

My America First Contract is an outline to reduce inflation and strengthen the economy, secure our border, restore transparency and parental choice in education, reduce violent crime and preserve the rule of law, restore election integrity, break up Big Tech, put America First in foreign, energy, and trade policies, and reinstate good government practices.

In addition to achieving these eight goals, the plan calls on conducting enhanced oversight and using available leverages to stop the abuse of power from President Biden in 2023. I will introduce legislation supporting each area of the plan within the first 100 days of the next Congressional term and will work with my colleagues to bring that legislation up for consideration in the House.

The full contract may be read here.

Alien Invasion Border Documentary

I recently released my new border documentary titled Alien Invasion. The 30-minute documentary features footage from private ranches along the border, the Darien Gap in Panama, and interviews with members of Congress, Border Patrol, local and state law enforcement, and much more. It addresses how President Biden’s border crisis began, its consequences, and solutions to address the crisis.

Definition of the Week

This week, National Public Radio (NPR) issued a headline reading: “Donald Trump, who tried to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election and inspired a deadly riot at the Capitol in a desperate attempt to keep himself in power, has filed to run for president again in 2024.”

Not only is this headline factually wrong, it is inappropriate given that this “news” organization is funded by U.S. taxpayers.

I have already cosponsored legislation that would defund NPR since their service is not permitted under the U.S. Constitution and not the role of the federal government.

Inspired by NPR, here’s the definition of the week:

“NPR”: An organization that should no longer be considered “news” and should be defunded.
