Dear Ward 8 Residents, 

It is that time of year again for my office to continue the holiday tradition of hosting the annual Ward 8 Wide Turkey Giveaway. This event will provide a turkey to 2,000 families this Thanksgiving. 

On Tuesday, November 22nd, Ward 8 residents will attend one of the designated host sites for a turkey. Register now at one of our distribution locations below:

To Participate in this Event: 

  • Must be a Ward 8 resident
  • Provide ID and proof of residency
  • One turkey per household. If a duplicate registration is identified, both tickets will be canceled.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What if I am not a Ward 8 resident, can I still register?

We wish we could serve everyone, however, this event is for Ward 8 residents only. If there are turkeys remaining following the event, it will be at the discretion of the host site to provide a turkey to those in need.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

All sites are metro accessible. Most sites have parking lots. Sites without parking lots have street parking.

Do I have to print my ticket to bring to the event?
No, you do not need a printed ticket however, please have your confirmation email available for verification. The confirmation of your order will be in the email you provided at registration.
 

Can I update my registration information?

Please be sure to register at the location that is most convenient for you. You will not be able to edit your pick-up site once your registration is complete.
 

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Your registration is NON-transferrable. 

PLEASE NOTE: Each person may only pick-up one turkey. There is a limit of one turkey per household. 

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration does not match the person who attends?

The name on the registration MUST match the ID shown to collect the turkey.

FY23 Color the Curb - School Safety Program

The District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH), in partnership with the District of Department of Transportation (DDOT), and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), seeks District-based artists experienced in large-scale exterior murals, youth engagement, and community-based projects to design and install ground murals in the intersections near four schools in Washington, DC. Selected artists will be awarded grant funds to be used for design, materials, fabrication, installation, personnel, and project management.

RFQ Release: Friday, November 4, 2022
Submission Deadline: Friday, December 2, 2022 (4:00 pm ET)
Notification of Award: On or about Tuesday, January 24, 2023
Number of Awards: Four
Award Amount: $30,000

Councilmember Trayon White Held A Virtual Emergency Meeting for Henson Ridge Residents.

On November 3rd, Councilmember White held an emergency meeting for residents at Henson Ridge. Councilmember White facilitated a conversation among residents, property owners, DC Housing Authority and the Metropolitan Police Department to find solutions to property concerns. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for November 14th.
