We have good news and bad news for you, John:

We’ll start with the bad news: Donald Trump just entered the 2024 presidential race despite his unpopularity, election denial, dangerous track record and deep ties to the NRA and gun lobby.

Now for the good news: The results of the midterm elections made it clear that young people are the real winners of this election.

Despite pundits and polls predicting a red wave, Democrats had one of the best midterms in over 50 years due to high youth turnout.

Exit polls show that among the 27 percent of young voters who cast ballots in midterms, nearly 63 percent voted for Democratic candidates. In critical races in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire, Gen-Z voters broke significantly in favor of Democrats, delivering the margin of victory in tight races for Governor and the Senate.

Young voters were the main drivers of Democratic victories for several key races across the country. Based on our recent youth poll, the results confirmed what we already knew: gun safety is a winning issue.

Thanks to your support, we elected the first Gen-Z champion, former MFOL National Organizing Director Maxwell Frost, to Congress along with five gun safety candidates who received high scores from March For Our Lives, all of whom won their elections.

In Oregon, despite being outspent by the gun lobby, Measure 114 won to deliver a significant step forward in the fight for gun safety — requiring safety training and a criminal background check to purchase a firearm, and prohibiting high-capacity magazines.

By showing up, we overcame millions of spending from the gun lobby and beat the odds against us. Young people stood up to be counted, and now we will hold our politicians' feet to the fire.
