Before I get into the results of this week's critical election, I want to recognize the extraordinary service of our veterans and their loved ones. May we continue to strive everyday, not just on Veterans Day, to live up to the values for which they make immeasurable selfless sacrifices.

The votes for Senate races in Arizona and Nevada are still being counted, but Tuesday night was a good night for Democrats and for progress. We bucked the historical trend. There was no red wave. In fact, we even have a chance of keeping both chambers of Congress once all the votes are counted.

The party in the White House typically loses seats in a midterm. Inflation is high and people are hurting. I traveled in about a dozen states leading up to the election, and a lot of folks were predicting that history would repeat itself.

According to experts and pundits, that spelled disaster, but with your support, we kept the focus on three major issues that helped us beat expectations, which I shared yesterday on MSNBC .

The first issue is no surprise — we faced serious threats to our democracy on the ballot this past Tuesday. Over 300 Republicans running in this country were denying the election results and saying things openly that were frightening and fundamentally offensive to a majority of voters.

Thanks to your support, we helped Democrats win governorships in key battleground states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin where Republican nominees were openly denying the 2020 election results, as well as many downballot races.

The second issue is no surprise either — extreme overreach by Republicans and the right-wing Supreme Court majority . From threatening to privatize Social Security, cut Medicare, and the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision erasing the constitutional right to an abortion, people felt their very rights and programs they paid into were on the chopping block. They were right, and they fought back.

Your support helped flip Pennsylvania’s Senate seat blue and gives us a fighting chance of keeping a majority that will confirm more federal judges like Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to protect our rights.

The third issue is fundamental: Who has your back?

If inflation is bad, who will be better for you?

Donald Trump’s and his Republican-controlled Congress' signature accomplishment was the biggest tax cut in generations for the wealthy and corporations.

When Democrats are in control, we bring solutions to the everyday problems that people have — we lower your prescription drug costs, we lower your health care costs, we stop you from being evicted in a pandemic.

We spoke effectively to those issues. Better than some of the pundits and pollsters would have had you believe a week or two ago. And your support is the reason why we have an opportunity to make two more years of real progress.

John, every email you opened, every petition you signed, every contribution you made helped spread this message and support candidates who represented our values in important races across the country.

I’ll have more to say in the coming days. We have an important runoff election to win in Georgia. But for now, I want you to know you have my deepest gratitude. Thank you for all of your support these past two years. Now we continue to work to bring this country together.
