There are so many reasons why I have decided to be in this fight and to work to unseat Rep. Ken Buck. I’ve mentioned a lot of them here to you, but there are some fundamental issues at play in our country that I perhaps did not talk about as much as they deserve.
We need to look at who represents us in Congress in every district in every state in this country. Tribal partisanship should not be the reason that we let so many toxic, destructive people stay in power—we need leaders in both parties who are willing to talk and seek agreement with voters of both/no party. The people are not first Democrats or Republicans: they are the American people, first and foremost, and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.
I didn’t sacrifice so much and serve in the armed forces for years to watch our country change from a beacon of freedom and democracy into a repressive and divisive authoritarian regime. This is about more than Colorado’s 4th District. If we can prevent unethical, shifty actors like Kevin McCarthy and Ken Buck from taking control of the U.S. House, then it is imperative we work to do that.
Those are some of the stakes, and some of the reasons why I so appreciate that you have been with me throughout all of this. I sincerely thank you for everything you’ve done to boost our 100% grassroots campaign, as well as any others you supported in this election.
