John,
We just released our 2022 Midterm Poll in partnership with Change Research to see what issues matter most to our generation. The results couldn't be more clear: gun safety is a winning issue. [[link removed] ]
The poll finds that gun safety is among the top three issues that are on young voters' minds when they head to the polls.
A few of the key findings from this survey include:
- A 53 percent majority of voters under 35 report they frequently or occasionally worry about their personal safety from gun violence.
- Young voters are more disillusioned with Congress on gun safety than other issues. Only 37 percent of voters under 35 believe that
Democrats in Congress have worked to make things better.
- Nearly 57 percent of youth voters indicate that support for a comprehensive gun safety package would make them more likely to vote for
a candidate, compared to 33 percent who say it would reduce support.
- There's widespread support for common-sense gun safety laws, with 76 percent of youth voters indicating that universal background
checks would make them feel safer; 75 percent supporting required gun safety courses; 64 percent against "permitless carry" laws; and 59
percent supporting laws that raise the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that the demographic affected most by gun violence overwhelmingly supports stronger gun safety laws. That’s why politicians must prioritize gun safety on the campaign trail and back it up with action in office.
Tomorrow is Election Day, and we need all hands on deck to elect a gun safety majority in Congress. We’ll be hosting phone banking events to call last-minute voters all across the country. Sign up here >>
