Dear MoveOn member, 

Firstly, I wanted to introduce myself, my name is Valeria Trevino, and I recently became part of the MoveOn Petition Platform Team. I’m so excited to be part of this amazing team and get to know all of you!

I am a Latina Muslim from south Texas with a passion for social justice and equity.

I have been a community organizer for many years now, and I’m glad my path has brought me to MoveOn, where I can be part of social change across many issues that impact our communities.

One of those issues right now is the fight for abortion rights and bodily autonomy.

When Roe was overturned by right-wing Supreme Court justices earlier this year, 50 years of guaranteed protection for abortion care went out the window. This decision has made it even clearer that we need to do everything in our power to elect officials that will codify abortion into law at the state and local levels.

That's why MoveOn's free petition platform has a new Abortion Petition Hub, where you can see if there are any petition campaigns for abortion rights in your community, and if there aren't any, you can easily start your own for fellow MoveOn members to support!

Everyone deserves autonomy over their own body. This blatant attack against abortion care is one of many brutal steps in a long-term campaign to demonize abortion, reproductive healthcare, and contraception. We cannot allow conservatives and far-right politicians to take away our right to choose.

Personally, I want to have a family and can't wait for the day I get to experience motherhood. However, not everyone feels the same way or finds themselves in a safe and financially, mentally, or emotionally stable situation to start a family. I believe everyone deserves the same right to choose if and when they want to become a parent.

Abortion is on the ballot this election. During elections this year, we have the opportunity to use our collective voice and fight back against anti-abortion incumbents and candidates. Not only are we voting for candidates that represent our ideas and support our abortion rights, but we will do everything we can to stop far-right candidates and their radical agendas from being considered.

There are plenty of ways we can come together to take on this fight for bodily autonomy. Whether we vote out an anti-abortion incumbent politician, push back on a candidate’s proposals for an abortion ban, or prevent an anti-abortion candidate from taking office in the first place.
