We’ve been hearing a lot from Republicans about inflation in recent months, but as usual, it’s been all talk and no substance.
It’s true that prices have made things difficult for folks struggling to make ends meet. In response, I’ve been working to lower the pressure on working families through a number of bold measures, including passing the historic Inflation Reduction Act, which provided much-needed relief to working families.
While Democrats have been trying to rein in inflation, though, Republicans have done nothing but obstruct and complain about all our efforts to help the American people. They are hoping that this strategy will win them back Congress, but behind the politics, they have no real plan to address the economy.
Republican leaders have been touting their go-to policy agenda as the answer to stop inflation: tax-cuts for the rich and slashing federal spending by gutting critical programs like Social Security and Medicare. But economists largely agree that these policies would make the situation even worse for working people.
Their proposed tax scam would line the pockets of billion-dollar corporations and millionaires, all while increasing the pressures on rising prices. Further, cuts to Social Security and Medicare could pull the rug out from underneath seniors who built their retirements around these programs. These policies threaten to destroy our economy.
Despite this, Republicans are eager to push their agenda through if they take back Congress. They will undo all the steps we’ve taken to slow down inflation and provide relief to the American people. That’s why it’s critical that we do everything we can in these final few days before the election to make sure Democrats maintain control of the House.
