Emgage PAC Endorses John Fetterman for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania

Dear Friend,

I hope that this email finds you well!

We are writing to inform you that Emgage PAC has decided to endorse Lt. Governor John Fetterman for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania.

Emgage PAC follows a rigorous process that includes: vetting candidates' historical political engagement, and analyzing their stances on various issues (including content and impact). We ask candidates to fill out a detailed questionnaire assessing their stances, and we incorporate community input to come to a final decision. Candidates are also often asked to provide answers through a rigorous interview process run by our professional political staff (with input from our state advisory committee and national team).

We endorsed Lt. Governor Fetterman over Dr. Oz because of his stances on key issues. For example, Lt. Governor Fetterman has a robust history of fighting for the freedom of those wrongfully convicted (through his work as Chair of the Board of Pardons), and he promises to continue fighting for criminal justice reform if elected to the Senate. He is also committed to expanding voting rights, transitioning to clean energy to combat climate change, and more.

In response to Emgage PAC's endorsement of him, Lt. Governor Fetterman stated the following:

“I am grateful and honored to have the support of Emgage PAC,” said Fetterman. “Emgage has played a critical role in educating and mobilizing Muslim American voters in Pennsylvania and across the country. I look forward to partnering with them in the U.S. Senate to pass legislation on issues that matter most to Muslim American communities from healthcare, to education, civil rights, and more.”

Dr. Oz, in contrast, held several stances that are not in line with Emgage PAC's values and that represent a continuation of Trumpism: a desire to build a wall on the U.S. borders, steps backward on criminal justice reform and gun reform, and ending protections for those with preexisting conditions to receive medical care, to name a few.

For more information on our stance on Dr. Oz, please see the Associated Press article that we took part in, here.

Control of the Senate may hinge on this race, and critical issues are at stake. We urge you to get our your vote!

On a separate note, we wanted to invite you to join us on November 6th for text and phone banking in support of re-electing Keith Ellison as Attorney General of Minnesota.

SIGN UP FOR A SHIFT HERE: bit.ly/EllisonAction

Keith is the first African American elected to statewide office in Minnesota and the first Muslim in the U.S. to win statewide office. Since being elected in 2018, Keith has worked hard to ensure that Minnesotans live with dignity, safety, and respect. He has fought to lower pharmaceutical drug prices, hold companies accountable for the deadly opioid epidemic, protect tenants from exploitation, protect seniors from scams and abuse, help student borrowers, hold major corporations accountable for consumer fraud, and much more.

Most famously, Keith led the team that successfully convicted former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd.

WHY WE NEED YOU TO ACT:

Keith has been at the forefront of defending our collective rights and values, and now he needs our support. He is facing a vengeful campaign for his leadership in the George Floyd case that would severely undercut the march toward social justice should it be allowed to succeed. The GOP has fielded a candidate with ZERO experience as a prosecutor who has made proud promises to do away with many of the civil rights and consumer protections that Keith has fought to uphold.

Let there be no mistake about what is at stake in this election: This is a referendum on whether justice for Black people and accountability can become the norm or remain the exception in America.
Furthermore, in the aftermath of Roe v. Wade getting overturned, attorney generals across the country have become even more critical in the fight to protect civil liberties and freedoms. This is why we are asking that you join us on November 6th for a nationwide Day of Action for Keith.

Please sign up to participate in this crucial effort to protect this important seat.

It's a busy time for us at Emgage - we hope to you get your civic engagement on as we work towards a brighter future for our country.

Warmly,

Salima Suswell

Executive Director of Emgage PAC Pennsylvania
