Run for Something
Hi John,

The first public defender to ever serve in the Virginia Assembly.

A superstar immigrant rights activist serving as District Attorney in Texas.

A Michigan state representative who flipped a red district blue for the first time in 22 years — and was only 25 years old when she launched her campaign.

What do they all have in common? They're not only progressive leaders inspiring transformative change in their communities, they're the three latest winners of Run for Something's 4th Annual Alumni Awards.

Jennifer Carroll Foy is running for Virginia State Senate after representing the Second House District in the General Assembly. As a foster mom for eight years, she's committed to making sure no child goes without a home. She's also the first Black woman to graduate from Virginia Military Institute.

José Garza is a former federal public defender, immigrant rights activist, and Executive Director of the Workers Defense Project. Now he's the Travis County District Attorney in Texas. José Garza has a unique view into how our carceral system works and how it impacts our communities.

Mari Manoogian represents the 40th District in the Michigan House of Representatives. Mari is a true, dedicated public servant whose journey into public office began when she was only 25 years old. With a background in Global Communications, she's committed to fighting for access to quality education for all.
