A SEASON OF GIVING
------------------------------------------------------------
We kicked off October with the start of our Fall 2022 Muslim Youth NYC Cohort! We are so proud of all the students who applied and made it into the program. The MYNYC program is an 8-week fellowship program that develops the civic leadership of Muslim and non-Muslim youth in our city. Our youth come from high schools all over the city. We are so proud of their leadership and can't wait to see what civic projects they'll do this year to impact their communities.

In the first class, students explored what community safety means to them.

Our Muslim Women's Empowerment program continued its program. We conducted a safety training workshop and learned what safety meant to us. We partnered with Legal Momentum to deliver worker safety practices and worker rights. The ladies also commemorated Domestic Violence Awareness month by presenting our DV poster to the masjid leadership. This poster will now be posted in the congregation space, and it reminds our community our Islam forbids violence against women.

We are so grateful to all the donors who participated in our Migrant Support Giveaway. We were able to supply migrants in the Bronx with essential winter clothing supplies due to your generosity! The migrant crisis is one of the largest crises our city has seen and community groups like ours are responding with the generosity of our donors.

We are grateful for the partnership with the Yemeni American Merchants Association with whom we partnered to deliver community safety workshops. Once again, being informed by our Hate Crimes report ([link removed]) , community safety is a big issue in our communities. In the past 6 months, we’ve conducted 10 hate crime prevention community safety training benefiting 180 Community members ranging from ages 9 to 72.

We are continuing our advocacy for Resolution 1257, which is a resolution that calls for introducing a religious diversity curriculum in NYC public schools. Our elected officials need to hear from parents, students, and teachers about the importance of this curriculum to prevent hate and foster understanding of our diverse communities. See below how you can be an active citizen in this space.

And finally, even the youngest members of our community love volunteering at our interfaith soup kitchen! Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped deliver hot meals to the needy.

As you can see friends, MCN is filling an important role in our community. From establishing partnerships and leveraging each other's strengths, to helping shape the narrative on issues that have impacted our communities the most! We are working on exciting new projects that are sure to make a mark on the Muslim American experience in our country. Please help support building this community by attending our gala on Nov. 22nd, 2022 ([link removed]) , or by making a donation to our cause.

This year we are honoring:
1. Dr. Craig Considine ([link removed]) in the Interfaith Leadership Category
2. Dr. Syra Madad ([link removed]) in the Trailblazer Category is a Muslim medical professional who was at the head of the pandemic.
3. and Imam Latif and Shaykh Jaffer ([link removed]) in the Community Leadership category for their inclusive congregation model including Sunni-Shiite narratives.
4. Our host is Omar Regan ([link removed]) , Founder of Halallywood

Institution building is not easy, and we all need to invest in ensuring we leave something for generations to come.

MCN is a trusted organization in our community as detailed by Charity Navigator and Guidestar.

Therefore, please give with confidence to MCN. It is with your support that we can build a Muslim civil-society-based institution advancing the narrative for Muslim Americans.
Please consider a donation of $50, $100, $250, $500 to help us continue building a Muslim institution that empowers our community!

With Gratitude,

Aniqa Nawabi
Executive Director
