Friend,
Just over a week from now, this
historic and completely insane midterm cycle is going to be over.
Phew, now we can all take a deep breath and forget about American
politics for a while, right?
Wrong.
Here’s what’s going to happen. As
soon as the air clears, Trump is going to ride down the Trump Hotel
escalator or live stream from the Mar-a-Lago breakfast buffet, and
officially announce his candidacy for President
Dictator of the United
States.
Don’t doubt it. The groundwork has
already been laid. The most power-hungry political operatives have
descended upon Mar-a-Lago. (Our advice: Ask any Trump campaign manager
how that’s gonna go) His calendar is packed with more MAGA rallies.
And oh yeah… Trump’s already declared
“I have to run again in 2024.”
Every conceivable sign is pointing
to a 2020 revenge match and the operative word here is “revenge.” Over
the next couple of years, Trump is going to be touring the country
with such grievance it’s going to make his 2016 campaign - and 2020 -
look like a tea party.
Trump isn’t just going to be
shouting to shouting at Newsmax cameras and “truthing” (ugh, that was
painful to write) into oblivion. Now that Elon Musk is officially in
charge of Twitter, the red carpet will soon officially be rolled out
for Trump to take back his favorite megaphone. Yep, we can think of
two things that’ll be damaged when that happens: Devin Nunes’s Truth
Social stock options and America’s nearly
250-year-old-democracy.
If this all sounds like a complete
nightmare to you, it’s because it is. It’s just a fact of our current
political moment. But we’re not here to cry or complain about it. The
Lincoln Project is here to fight it.
So here’s what you can
do.
-
Keep your eyes fixed on the midterms,
and do everything in your power to elect pro-democratic candidates in
your state and around the country. That
means check out the work we’re doing at The Union if you haven’t
yet.
- Support
one of the hard-hitting, critical ads we’re running in swing states
around the country. Your support helps us reach more voters and helps
grow our pro-democracy movement through November 8th and
beyond.
Then, when Trump makes his big
announcement, you stay in the fight. And you get your friends and your
family to stay in the fight.
That’s the mission.
-The Lincoln Project
