News from Representative Allred

Dear Friend,

North Texans have overcome tremendous challenges over the past couple of years and I’m so encouraged to see the progress our communities have made. I’ve heard from so many of you on a variety of issues that matter to you and your families. It’s why I fought hard to pass landmark legislation to deliver relief from the high cost of health care and prescription drugs, spur Texas manufacturing and create jobs, protect abortion rights, keep our communities safe from gun violence, and fight the climate crisis while modernizing our infrastructure and boosting the North Texas economy.

This year, I proudly voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, a historic investment in the middle-class that:

Lowers health care costs
  • By allowing Medicare to negotiate the price
  • By capping out of pocket for those on Medicare at $2,000 in 2025
  • By capping the cost of insulin for those on Medicare at $35 per month next year
  • By providing free vaccines to those on Medicare next year
Lowers energy costs and creates 9 million jobs
  • By investing in clean, Texas made energy
  • Through tax credits to help Texans buy energy-efficient homes, appliances, electric vehicles and more
  • By cutting emissions and reducing pollution by 40% by 2030
As a member of the Transportation Committee I helped pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law last year, which is the most robust job-creating infrastructure package in a century and makes investments to:
  • Repair and improve Texas highways and bridges
  • Improve and strengthen DART with a historic investment in public transit
  • Improve Texas airports
  • Expand our state’s electric vehicle charging system
  • Upgrade Texas’ port infrastructure with a nationwide investment in our ports
  • Expand access to reliable internet and help more than 8 million Texans afford high-speed internet, while strengthening cybersecurity
Still none of this matters if basic health and safety is not guaranteed as it should be for all North Texans. That’s why I am proud that both parties finally came together to act on gun safety and passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act into law, the first major gun safety bill in three decades, which will crack down on illegal gun sales, expand background checks and save lives. This is a good step, but I will keep working to build on this progress and reduce gun violence.

Finally, I will never stop fighting to protect the rights of North Texans, which is why I proudly voted in the House to pass legislation to codify Roe protections and protect access to abortion. Texas has one of the most restrictive and cruel abortion bans in the country and I will never stop working to ensure women can access abortion and the health care they need.

While we still have much more work to do, I am proud to deliver for North Texas and represent you in Congress.

Sincerely,
