Dear Friend,

After the Supreme Court’s devastating decision to turn back the clock on our fundamental human rights, we’re continuing the fight for gender equality and our right to choose. The decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has jeopardized the freedom and basic health care for millions of people across America – and this is only the beginning. The Supreme Court has set their sights on other fundamental rights – like access to contraceptives and the right to marry who you love. I’m standing firm in the fight to defend our right to bodily autonomy and to live in safe and sustainable communities.

This week, Vice President Kamala Harris visited Albuquerque to learn more about New Mexico’s work as a leader in defending reproductive rights. I am proud that New Mexico is an example to the nation when it comes to protecting our fundamental freedoms. During her visit, we discussed how New Mexico’s commitment to providing abortion care to all patients seeking this procedure is increasing wait times and straining our clinics’ resources.

Longer wait times are not the only barrier women face when it comes to abortion care. There are still so many women and pregnant people that cannot access abortion and reproductive care, primarily to due to economic or social barriers. Some women do not have the means to get an abortion or travel to get one. In order to promote social and economic equality we must protect abortion access; it is essential that everyone can make their private medical decisions in consultation with their doctor – free from interference from politicians.

In Congress, I have cosponsored and voted for a range of bills to address the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The President has promised to put this issue at the forefront of our legislative agenda in the coming year, and I support this commitment so we can defend our fundamental human rights.

Finally, I just want to take a moment to remind everyone to get out and vote. Expanded early voting began on October 22 – please check locations and hours of operation by contacting your County Clerk’s Office. You can also use this link to find the closest polling locations near you. Voting is the best way to ensure your voice is heard and is the foundation of our country. Whether it is in person or by mail, I encourage you to get out and vote today.
