Welcome to my latest newsletter, I hope you are well. As ever, if there is anything I can do to help, or if you would like to speak to me at one of my upcoming surgeries, please do let me know.

New Prime Minister

You will have seen that Rishi Sunak has won the party leadership contest and has become our Prime Minister.

The country is facing many challenges - now is the time for unity, stability, delivery and relentless focus on our priorities here in Wiltshire. It is crucial that we come together and unite behind this common mission, delivering on the manifesto upon which we were elected.

Having spoken to Rishi ahead of backing him over the weekend, I am confident that he will represent the interests of both our community and the country.

I was keen to hear your thoughts on this over the last few days, and Rishi was by far our community's most popular choice in my online poll on who you would like to see as our next Prime Minister.

I believe the priority should now be making good on the promises we made in 2019 and helping people through the challenges ahead.

Reappointment to DCMS

I was delighted to be reappointed as Secretary of State for the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport at a time when there is so much vital work to be done.

From protecting children online through the Online Harms Bill, to safeguarding football clubs from poor ownerships and delivering our commitments to invest in grassroots sport and world leading cultural assets right across the country, the breadth of the work of the department, and the tangible impact of people's quality of life is almost immeasurable. I am excited about the challenge and will deliver.

As I have always said, my first priority is, and will always remain, my constituents in Wiltshire. I will continue to hold regular surgeries, champion local causes and be an approachable and dedicated champion for my constituents in Parliament.

Community Crime Forums

I’m running four virtual crime forums in the coming weeks for you to ask questions and raise concerns about crime in our community with myself, our local Police and Crime Commissioner and the local Inspector for each area.

We know that policing rural areas can be challenging, and since 2015 I’ve been working hard to ensure that our police force have the resources they need to help keep us safe. Feedback from the community is a vital part of this, so these forums are a fantastic opportunity for you to let us know your experiences and where additional resources are needed.

The first forum will cover Chippenham and the surrounding villages and will take place on this evening at 7pm

These forums will take place on Microsoft Teams so as many people as possible can take part - if you know of anyone who doesn’t have access to this but would like to participate, they are very welcome to send in their question in advance and I will write to them following the forums.

Further dates for Melksham, Corsham and Bradford-on-Avon and their surrounding villages will be announced in due course.

If you would like to attend the Chippenham forum this evening please email me at [email protected], and you will receive a Teams link to join the meeting.
