Special Election for House District 23

In September, Governor Reeves announced the appointment of Representative Jim Beckett as Executive Director of the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff.

To accept the appointment, Beckett announced his resignation from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

The governor announced this week that on January 10, 2023, there will be a special election to fill the vacated position of State Representative District 23.

November 21, 2022 is the deadline to qualify.

Candidates must file a Statement of Intent, a Candidate Petition containing the signatures of not less than 50 qualified electors of the district, and submit a $250 qualifying fee to the Secretary of State’s Office.

The Mississippi Freedom Caucus is looking for qualified candidates in District 23 to fill this vital role.  If you are interested or know someone who is considering throwing their hat in the ring, have them complete the Candidate Questionnaire to begin the process.
