DALLAS, TX – I introduced legislation today to empower pregnant mothers considering adoption with healthcare options. The Caring for Mothers Act will allow parents who are adopting a newborn child to put the pregnant mother onto the adopting parents' health insurance during the time of the pregnancy and one year postpartum. The Caring for Mothers Act would not only give countless newborns the right to life, but it would empower mothers with the care and support they deserve during their pregnancy. I am proud to introduce this lifesaving legislation and hope my colleagues can see across party lines to support mothers and protect America's most vulnerable lives. Read more on The Caring for Mothers Act here. I also joined Republican Whip Steve Scalise on a letter to President Biden demanding an immediate halt to his war on American energy by issuing a robust offshore energy leasing plan. Americans are suffering from high gas prices. That’s why we are requesting the President work with us to immediately unleash American energy. You can read the full letter here. Earlier this year, I introduced legislation that would provide the certainty necessary for continued investment in offshore production. You can read about my Strategy to Secure Offshore Energy Act here. On Monday, I met with Lonestar Construction to hear about their project to revamp I-35 and make our roadways in North Texas safer and more efficient. Later that day, I toured the EssilorLuxottica facility and heard about their operation here in North Texas. EssilorLuxottica is an international eyewear company with a manufacturing facility in Farmers Branch. On Tuesday, I met with Platinum Press – a member of the Pharmaceutical Printed Literature Association – at their office in Fort Worth to discuss how inflation, labor shortages, and supply chain disruptions are affecting their industry. I had a great meeting on Wednesday with the folks from BILT, a software company that provides 3D interactive instructions for millions of users. It has been an honor highlighting the stories of North Texans who have gone above and beyond to better our community. Today, I was joined by many of them for our Hometown Hero Recognition Lunch. If you know a Hometown Hero who has gone above and beyond to better our community, nominate them here. Next Tuesday, I will be hosting a Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin Recognition Luncheon to recognize the tremendous sacrifice our servicemembers – past and present – have made to protect our nation’s many freedoms. Please fill out this quick form to sign up. I hope to see you all there! Hometown Hero of the Week Our Texas-24 Hometown Heroes of the week are Diego Pena and Neha Bharadwaj for participating in Carnegie Hall’s extremely competitive National Youth Orchestra program and representing North Texas around the world!
