I had to let you know about this dangerous Texas law, John.
Last year, the Texas legislature passed S.B. 2158 — a law that mandates the Texas Education Agency provide DNA and fingerprint identification kits to every student.
That means over 3.8 million students in grades K-8 will now take home DNA identification kits and submit them to law enforcement agencies to help find missing children in emergencies like the Uvalde massacre earlier this year.
Our "solution" to school shootings cannot be collecting better DNA from our children so we can identify their mutilated and decapitated bodies after being obliterated by an AR-15. This wrongheaded law will do nothing to keep our children and schools safe.
We need more graduations and fewer funerals. We need gun safety laws, not more cops in schools. And we need a federal assault weapons ban, not extreme laws surveilling students in the name of “safety.” (Which, by the way, is a complete invasion of privacy for the children and their families.)
President Biden vowed to pass a federal assault weapons ban, and we need a pro-gun-violence-prevention majority in Congress to get it done. On November 8, we have an opportunity to save millions of lives by voting out corrupt, NRA-backed politicians.
In solidarity,
