This is big news,
John.

Last week we emailed you about the President of the Pacific island nation
Vanuatu calling for governments to negotiate a Fossil Fuel
Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Yesterday, the European Parliament — the governing body of the European
Union — formally added its support calling on countries to “work on
developing a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty” in a resolution passed
ahead of the UN climate summit, COP27.

This proposed treaty aims to stop all new development of oil and gas,
phase out existing fossil fuel production, and ensure workers are
transitioned to a green economy in a fair way. It has already been backed
by the World Health Organization, the Vatican, and 70 cities and
subnational governments.

We need your help to mobilize our global movement to pass this treaty at
COP27 that’s less than a month away. With enough resources, we can put
pressure on every nation state, including the U.S., to join Vanuatu and
the EU in supporting this treaty.

$3.50
donation so we can support all of our global campaigners from Japan, South
Africa, Canada, the U.S., and beyond, to pressure their governments to
support the #FossilFuelTreaty ahead of COP27?

The #FossilFuelTreaty isn’t the only good news to come out of the European
Parliament’s resolution. It also calls on nations to:

🏭 “phase out fossil fuels as soon as possible”
💰 “halt all new investments in fossil fuel extraction”
💸 “end fossil fuel subsidies”

This resolution proves that with enough organizing power, we can convince
even more countries to sign on to the treaty. We already collected
thousands of petition signatures calling on the U.S. to support the
treaty.

But we’re going to need more support in order to ramp up the pressure in
the U.S. — and in every country we work in — so that we can build enough
momentum behind this treaty before COP27 begins in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt,
on November 6.

[ [link removed] ]Your donation will be put to work right away supporting our campaigners
around the world as they organize actions, petitions, media pressure, and
more, to pressure their government to support the treaty. Any amount makes
a difference.

We’ll keep you posted about more ways you can help and let you know our
progress in getting more commitments from countries around the world.

Thank you for reading.
