I’m reaching out today because an alarming amount of money is being spent by the Congressional Leadership Fund — a major GOP super PAC — attacking Summer Lee and her campaign.
Summer Lee is a Pennsylvania state legislator born and raised in the Mon Valley, in the heart of Pennsylvania’s 12th District, where she’s running. And, she would be the first Black woman to represent Pennsylvania in Congress.
Growing up in North Braddock, the air was thick with pollution from the Mon Valley steel mills. Summer and her neighbors have seen firsthand how corporations will choose their own wealth over our health, and put profits over people — forcing communities like hers to rely on jobs that make them sick, while making them believe they had no other choice.
Summer is running for Congress because all her life she has seen how communities like hers are left behind. Summer knows we need elected officials who don’t just talk the talk. We need ones who’ll fight the fight with the urgency our crises demand — for environmental justice, union jobs, and racial equity.
That is why Summer Lee prioritizes key pieces of legislation such as a Green New Deal, a living wage, Medicare for All, abortion access, and justice reform.
But, once again super PACs are using dirty political tactics to undermine Summer’s campaign, by spending millions to stop progress and bold change from having a seat in Congress. That’s why I’m personally coming to you today to ask if you can chip in whatever you can to ensure Summer has the resources needed to fight back against these attacks. I am no stranger to attack ads, blatant disinformation from extremist publications, or racist and misogynistic attacks on me and my character. But regardless, I have always been determined to run my campaign the right way, and that’s what I see from Summer Lee.
Summer has delivered unapologetic, bold leadership, and is unafraid to stand up to status-quo politicians and push for policies that will lift up working families and her community. Her record speaks for itself and the truth of the matter is this:
The GOP is afraid of Summer and this progressive movement.
That is why they are spending so much to try and keep a true champion for working people from winning on November 8. Summer prioritizes integrity, transparency, and accountability, and doesn’t take a cent from corporate donors or super PAC’s, that’s why we need to have her back now.
