Friends,

The last email I sent you got a huge response — thank you.

I want to share one reply because it made an excellent point.

This was from John, a Vietnam veteran. He wrote about his experience and his life, and then he said this:

“You’re a vet, I’m a vet, and people need to know that veterans swore an oath to the Constitution. Doing things like trying to overturn elections strikes at the heart of that oath. You should tell people that.”

Agreed, John.

As someone who swore an oath to defend our Constitution when I enlisted 20 years ago, the fact that 60% of Americans [[link removed]] will have an election denier on their ballot is unacceptable.

Why?

Because there’s a direct connection between trying to overturn a lawful election and throwing out the Constitution.

I’m an attorney. If I brought a case to dozens and dozens of courts all across the country and lost over and over again, and then I went out and said, “Let’s all just act as if I won and forget about these courts,” I’d essentially be asking people to throw out our Constitution and just listen to me.

Which is exactly what happened.

That’s not how our country works, and the reason that’s not how it works is because of our Constitution.

But we’re still stuck in this dangerous moment where a broad assault on our Constitution is underway by political forces who find democracy inconvenient and — as a veteran, an attorney, and a candidate for Congress — it’s my first job to make sure the Constitution prevails.

And that was my first job when I became a state Senator in 2014, when the first order of business was to swear an oath to the constitutions of our state and our country.

This is also the central point that Rep. Liz Cheney — a strong conservative — is making, and I genuinely respect her for doing so. As she says, “It is hard to see this as anything but a direct threat to our Constitution, to our Republic — and a credible one at that.”

If elected to Congress, I’ll once again swear an oath to defend our Constitution. And here’s my pledge to you: I’ll take it seriously, as I always have.

These days, that’s saying a lot. It will be the single most important service I have to offer.

I hope that’s worth your support. There are 20 days until the election. The attack ads are pounding us. If you’re ready to stand with us, please pitch in here. [[link removed]]
