Hello —

These last few days have been incredibly difficult for our community. My heart is heavy as we mourn the five lives lost by the senseless act of gun violence in Raleigh last week. My thoughts are with their families, friends, and loved ones, and with every person who knows the pain of losing a loved one to senseless gun violence.

No one should ever have to leave their home worried about being a victim in the next mass shooting. No one should ever send their children to school worried they won’t come back.

But that’s the reality in today’s America — where we often don’t have the time to even process one tragedy before the next one strikes. We cannot normalize or accept this, and we cannot sit idly by as this epidemic worsens.

Gun violence has plagued our nation for far too long, and I’m devastated that our community was just the latest in the long line of American communities forever changed by a mass shooting.

While we still don’t know all the details of last week’s tragedy, I do know this: Raleigh is resilient, strong, and united. I know our community will come together in this difficult moment to provide comfort and support for the families, friends, and loved ones of those we lost. And I know I’ll never stop fighting to pass commonsense gun safety reform in Congress that will make our communities safer.

All my best,

Deborah

P.S. If you’re looking for ways to support the family, friends, and loved ones of those we lost, you can find a list of resources here. [[link removed]]
